BHATURA RECIPE

You have just learned the recipe of yummy chana masala through the last post. Chana masala is eaten as a side dish with rice or chapati. However, the most popular combination is with bhatura. Chana-Bhatura is among the most common street food in India. So, here is the recipe for bhatura to enjoy chana bhatura as an Indian breakfast.

Preparation Time: 8 hours

Cooking Time: 30 minutes

Servings: 15 bhaturas (depending upon the ball size)

Ingredients:
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour (maida)
  • 1/2 cup semolina (suji/rawa)
  • 1.5 cups curd / yogurt (dahi)
  • 1/2 tsp of salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1.4 tsp soda powder
  • 3 cups cooking oil for deep-frying
Preparation Instructions:
  • Take all-purpose flour (maida), semolina (suji), baking powder, salt, and soda in a bowl and mix them well.
  • Knead this mixture into a soft and smooth dough with the help of curd (dahi). Avoid using water.
  • Cover the dough and keep it in a warm place for 2 to 3 hours for fermentation.
  • The dough will rise after fermentation and become ready for making bhaturas.
  • Knead it lightly and take a small ball to roll it into a circle or oval shaped bhatura.
  • Heat oil till smoke rise up from it and add bhaturas into it for deep-frying one by one.
  • Press the bhatura from top with a slotted spoon to puff it up. Cook it golden from both sides.
  • Remove bhatura from oil and keep it on an absorbent paper. Repeat till the dough finish.
  • Hot and puffy bhaturas are ready to be served with delicious Chana Masala.
Tips:
  • You can also use wheat flour to make healthy bhaturas.
  • You can prepare the dough one night before making bhaturas and after fermentation store it in refrigerator.
  • You can also add some carom seeds and coriander to the dough to give flavour to bhaturas.
