HEALTHY PALAK DAL RECIPE

The best food is one which is tasty as well as healthy. Here is a dish which is yummy and yet full of nutrients. A perfect way to serve nutrients in your kids plate. You must try this out:

Preparation Time: 15 minutes

Cooking Time: 20 minutes

Servings: 2

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups spinach (washed and chopped)
  • 1 cup Pigeon Peas (Toor dal)
  • 2 tbsp cooking oil
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
  • A pinch of asafoetida (hing)
  • 4 garlic pods (crushed)
  • 1 inch ginger (peeled and crushed)
  • 1 onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 green chilly
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp freshly squeezed Lemon juice (optional)
Preparation Instructions:
  • Pressure cook toor dal with half of turmeric powder and hing for 2-3 whistles on medium heat.
  • Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. When cumin seeds begin to change colour, add chopped onions.
  • Saute till onions become golden brown. Add ginger, garlic and green chillies and saute for a minute.
  • Add spinach and cook till it become soft. When it will become soft, mash it with a ladle.
  • Add the remaining turmeric powder and salt. Add dal and a cup of water. Let it cook for 5 minutes on low heat.
  • Add lemon juice before serving.
  • Serve a healthy spinach-lentils dish with plain rice, roti or paratha.
Tips:
  • You can also use moong dal or a mix of both toor and moong dal.
  • You can pressure cook spinach along with dal. This will save time. Some people also boil spinach separately and grind it into paste.
